Description

Once a pup() method is defined for a non-linear data structure, the RTS knows how to pack/unpack/alloc a message containing such data structure. Since pup() is required for parameter marshalling, and seems to me more convenient to use than the raw byte copying necessary for custom packed messages, I would like to suggest to remove custom packed messages and replace them with something based on the PUP framework. To some extent this is related to issue #336.

There should be a fair amount of synergy between the underlying intent of this and the work being done for DDT in AMPI.
